Foremost contender for Warri South Constituency II Seat in Delta State House of Assembly and second term Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, has told PDP delegates in Warri South Constituency II and other eligible voters in the constituency, not to be deceived that the Electoral Act 2022 as amended, precludes him from contesting the PDP House of Assembly primary fixed for Sunday May 22 and the general elections slated for next year, 2023.
Dr. Tidi, who made the clarification in a statement released this evening, Friday May 20, noted: " Section 84( 12) of the Electoral Act 2022, which says anyone holding a political office, must vacate the position, before he or she can be eligible to participate in a primary election, convention or congress of political parties either as a candidate or as a delegate, explicitly stated that the provision only covers political appointees and does not extend to elected political office holders.
" Those trying to manipulate delegates by lying to them that I am not eligible to contest the PDP House of Assembly primary, because I am a seating local government chairman, should remember that I was duly elected to serve people of Warri South Local Government Area in an election conducted by Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC and not a political appointee. It is the same provision of the Electoral Act 2022 that allows Vice President Yemi Osinbajo , Senator James Manager, Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Chief ( Dr.) Thomas Ereyitomi of the House of Representatives, Hon. Augustine Uroye of Delta State House of Assembly and other incumbent lawmakers and governors, to contest political party primaries, that gives me the protection to legitimately contest for the PDP House of Assembly primary scheduled for this weekend. I am fully in the race and very upbeat about clinching the PDP ticket for Warri South Constituency II this Sunday May 22."
