Exclusive: Electoral Act 2022 cuts Warri South PDP delegates to 38

Very credible pieces of information scooped by Your Trusted Fresh Angle International last night, revealed that only 38 ad - hoc delegates will vote in the Peoples Democratic Party House of Assembly primary in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, due to Section 84 (8) of the Electoral Act 2022, which controversially excludes statutory delegates.

While 20 ad - hoc delegates are expected to elect PDP flagbearer for Warri South Constituency II in the PDP House of Assembly primary fixed for tomorrow, Sunday May 22, only 18 ad - hoc delegates will vote for who will pick PDP ticket for Warri South Constituency 1.

Interestingly, the Electoral Act 2022, precludes the members representing Warri South Constituencies 1 and II in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Augustine Uroye and Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, respectively, who are seeking return mandates on the PDP platform and the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi, who is contesting to represent Warri South Constituency II in the 2023 general elections, from voting for themselves in primary slated for tomorrow, unlike the old electoral act which gives them the right to vote in the primary as statutory delegates.

A statement from the National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Umar M. Bature, which circulated late last night on social media platforms, explained that three Ad - Hoc Delegates per ward, elected at the Ward Congresses and one (1) National Delegate per Local Government, elected at the Local Government Area Congresses, are those, "qualified and eligible to vote as delegates in the forthcoming Primaries and National Convention " of the party.
