24hours to the hugely anticipated polls, there are palpable anxiety among Deltans of what the security and social situation will become tomorrow Saturday March 28.
While some Deltans appear to have played into the psychology of the ruling PDP’s seeming popularity in the State, members of the opposition All Progressives Congress appear determined to see the battle to a logical conclusion.
Investigations reveal that despite President Goodluck Jonathan performing the $16 billion Industrial Gas City Ground Breaking Ceremony at Escravos, Warri South-West Local Government yesterday, most Itsekiris who are not in the ruling PDP are poised to vote for the APC Presidential Candidate.
Fresh Angle International can report that PDP Chieftains in Warri have since the early hours of this morning been holding strategic meetings at the homes of its leaders.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Army in display of its preparedness alongside other security agents say their role in the electioneering process was the protection of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC staff, materials as well as maintenance of law and order.
The Commanding officer 222 Battalion of Agbarha-Otor, Lt. Col Mathew Oyekola who briefed Newsmen at Ughelli after the Joint Military and security agents sensitization tour across the nine local government area within its Command, said the Command was carrying out its constitutional role.
‘’We are to give necessary outer cover to INEC staff, materials, polling units, collation centres. Our presence was not to scare voters but to further encourage and assure voters of their security within and after the elections”, he explained.
While affirming the gallantry of its men and other security agents working in collaboration, Oyekola maintained that the force would fully deploy its equipment to hot spots and flash points to check excesses of those that would want to cause trouble.
He expressed confidence that his men in synergy with other security agents, would sustained the prevailing peace, especially in the riverine communities, noting that adequate logistics have been put in place for the deployment.
