Why I’m not bothered about the 2023 general elections, Opuoru asserts
Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, fielding questions from newsmen

The Chairman, House Committee on Trade and Investment in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Poko Opuoru, says he is unfazed about the 2023 general elections, particularly his return bid, because he has support of the masses in Warri South Constituency II.

The first-term lawmaker, who recently secured the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP ticket for Warri South Constituency II ahead of the general polls next year, made the declaration at his private residence in Bendel Estate, Sunday June 5, when he hosted PDP Statutory delegates in Warri South Constituency II.

Hon. Opuoru, who lambasted the APC led Federal Government over the insecurity situation, bad economy and poor public supply in the country, averred: “The essence of this gathering, was to appreciate the PDP statutory delegates in Warri South Constituency II. Because of the amended fiasco (The Electoral Act 2022) they (46 delegates) were not allowed to the participate in the primaries. They were solidly behind me and were ready to vote for me.

“I can boldly tell you that I am not bothered about the general elections, because I am a grassroots impresario. I have the support of the masses in Warri South Constituency II. My empowerment programme in Warri South Constituency II, is unprecedented. What we need to do now, is to bridge the gap and bring others together, we shall prevail”.

The former DESOPADEC Commissioner, added: “Delta is a PDP state, we are at the verge of reconciliation, with the aim of bringing aggrieved members to join us. The APC led Federal Government, promised to give us electricity in six months, but what we are experiencing today in the country are; Insecurity, bad economy and poor electricity, after seven years. We are still in darkness, it will be a bit foolish for anybody to go and vote for APC at this present time.

“His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has done very well in Delta State, in terms of empowerment, infrastructural development, peace and security. Delta State is very peaceful, you cannot say that about any APC led state or the APC led federal government. PDP is going to win the Presidency come 2023. My choice for Vice President, is Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, but I will leave the final decision for the party leadership at Abuja”.
