The Itsekiri Progress Club, IPC, has congratulated the President-Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and tasked him to ensure strict adherence to and enforcement of the rule of Law in the governance of the country.
The elite Itsekiri pressure group made this call in Warri, Delta State, yesterday in a statement made available to newsmen by its Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Lawrence Ukubeyinje and Secretary, Barr. Austin Oborogbeyi, saying he should administer the country with the fear of God in mind and the collective interest of all Nigerians in particular.
The IPC who also commended President Goodluck Jonathan not only for conducting a free, fair, credible and violence free but also for his spirit of sportsmanship and statesmanship in conceding defeat and congratulating Gen Buhari for his emergence as the winner of the March 28, 2015 polls, saying that President Jonathan has by that singular conduct attained the status of a World leader in the class of Late Nelson Mandela in the African continent.
The group who commended Gen. Buhari for his steadfastness, doggedness and resilience in the fight to lead the country admonished him to see the whole country as his constituency and endeavour to wipe out corruption and others societal ills militating against the attainment of a just and egalitarian society, even as they appealed to Nigerians to note the immediate lessons of the highly democratic and successful elections.
The group maintained that before elections, there were palpable fears amongst Nigerians and the international community because of the rancorous nature of the political campaigns, adding that the outcome of the polls has dramatically changed the views of Nigerians and the world community for the better about Nigeria as witnessed in the sudden rise in the price of Nigerian crude and upsurge in the value of the naira, including endless commendation to Nigeria by world leaders.
The IPC appealed for a similar exhibition of patriotism in the conduct and outcome of the gubernatorial and Houses of Assembly polls come Saturday, April 11, 2015 across the country, just as they canvassed support for power to shift to the Delta north Senatorial district this time around in Delta State for the sake of equity, fairness and justice because both the Delta Central and South districts have had their legitimate turns at the Government House, Asaba, as Governors.
They therefore appealed to Deltans to vote for Senator Ifeayin Okowa of the North Senatorial district for the Governorship seat on the platform of the PDP on Saturday, April 11, 2015 as he stands out as the most popular gubernatorial candidate from that senatorial district.
