The Institute of Safety Practitioners of Nigeria, ISPON has charged Nigerians to keep their environment clean in order to be healthy.
The charge was given today by the immediate past Chairman of the Institute, Anthony Odibo, during the celebration of the World Safety Day in Warri, Delta State.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that in the spirit of the World Safety Day, members of ISPON went to several public places to deliver health talks and sensitize the people on the prevention of diseases as well as general hygiene.
Some of the places visited during the sensitization include Ugbuwangue Market, Ugborikoko Market, Police Area Command Warri, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Ugbomro, College of Education, Warri and Motor Parks in Uvwie.
At Ugbuwangue Market, Madam Alero Ajanemiwa commended ISPON for the health talks and appealed to the Delta State government to make sure they put the newly built Ugbuwangue Market to use to avoid waste of government resources.
Also at Ugborikoko Market in Uvwie Local Government Area, the Market Chairman, Chikezie Ugwu thanked the team for the sensitization and assured the group that they are going to make sure they preach good hygiene to the people.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Delta State Chapter of ISPON, Ajobo Edward has warned that any uncertified Safety Professional will be arrested henceforth, insisting that safety practice is not something that should be joked with.
The Delta State ISPON Boss also appreciated the outgoing President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for passing the Institution of Safety Professionals of Nigeria bill into law, just as he appealed to the Delta State Government to partner with the Institute and create a Ministry of Safety or a Department of Safety as a parastatal in the state government to be headed by some Safety Professionals from the Institute.
Ajobo also used the medium to warn anybody operating illegal Safety school or programmes to desist from it or face arrest.
