Out-going Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has admonished Deltans to work collectively in achieving the Delta Beyond Oil, DBO, in the shortest possible time, stressing that Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR is a testament of positive difference that marks the new chapter of the State.
Dr. Uduaghan who was represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Kenneth Okpara made the statement yesterday in Warri during the official commissioning of the ultra modern headquarters of Delta Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR as well as that of the zonal offices.
He said “We foresee an immediate future where the DBIR will be at the forefront of Delta Beyond Oil, where the state will be fully viable and sustainable without dependence on federal allocation”, adding “we know this is achievable through the will of government and support of our people”.
According to the Commissioner, DBIR have been able to grow Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of over Five Hundred and Fifty percent since 2007 to fund the entire re-current expenditure, personnel and over-head cost of the state government.
He stated that there are fifteen offices across the three senatorial districts in the state. The offices spread across Warri, Olleh, Effurun, Agbor, Asaba, Isele-Uku, Sapele, Uvwian, Burutu, Ozoro, Ogwashi-Uku, Patani, Ogbe-Ijaw and Ughelli.
The Governor applauded the Project Contractors and Consultants for quick delivering of the projects and urged the incoming administration of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to sustain the dream of DBO.
In an interview, the Chairman of DBIR, Mr. Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, stated that the future of DBIR depends on taxation, stating that infrastructural development is one of the steps that create the platform for sustaining IGR growth.
Mr. Thomas averred, “we make refund in this present administration because, I promise to create a level play ground when I was inaugurated in 2009”.
Those presented award by the DBIR Boss include: the out-going Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, The Deputy Governor, Delta State, Prof. Amos Utuama, The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Com. Ovuozourie Macaulay and The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Kenneth Okpara.
Award were also presented to Board Members and Directors of DBIR by the Delta State PDP Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor and Mr. Kenneth Okpara.
