Commissioner declares Warri South cleanest LGA  in Delta State

Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu has declared Warri South the cleanest local government area in the state, commending the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Dr. Michael Tidi for his commitment towards the monthly sanitation exercise.

 

Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that the commissioner, made the declaration today, Saturday September 24, while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Warri South Local Government.

 

 He stated: "The difference is clear from other Local Government Areas."

 

According to him, Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa,  acknowledges  the good work of Dr. Tidi towards environmental sanitation.

 

He commended the Environmental Health Officers and Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Omawumi Elete, for their diligence to work, saying, “without your help, the exercise will be in futility”

 

Responding, Dr. Tidi, who was represented by Secretary to Warri South Local Government, Mr. Joseph Oribioye, appreciated the Comissioner for Environment for the visit.

 

The Warri South Local Government Boss, said is administration, is passionate about clean environment.

“We carry out extensive daily sanitation exercise, today’s sanitation exercise is  like every normal day for us," he noted.

 

He felicitated with the commissioner  on his appointment and prayed for him to assist the Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to finish strong.

 

The Council’s Supervisor for Environment, Mr. Omawumi Elete, told newsmen that he was satisfied with the level of compliance by residents of the Oil City, expressing appreciation to the Commissioner for monitoring the exercise in Warri South.

 

Elete, an Environmentalist, commended members of the State Taskforce on Environment, for supporting the council in enforcing the restriction order and compliance by residents of Warri South. 

 

He urged residents of Warri to imbibe the culture of environmental sanitation, to keep ensure a cleaner and more aesthetic Warri.

Head of Environment Department, Warri South Council, Mrs. Stella Mode, said: "“The turnout to the exercise was impressive, although 67 sanitation violators  were arraigned  before the Warri South Environmental Sanitation Mobile Court presided over  by Magistrate Elohor Tunde Smooth (Mrs.) of Magistrate Court 5, for flouting the 7am to 10 am restriction order announced by the state government.
