The Itsekiri Political Assembly, IPA, has urged eligible Itsekiris to de - emphasize political party affiliations and vote for candidates that can secure and develop Itsekiri homeland in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
The call by IPA, as contained in a statement released today, Sunday September 25 by its Convener, Edema Collins Oritsetimeyin, is coming three days to the commencement of campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The IPA statement made available to Fresh Angle International, declared: "We wish to call on all Itsekiris worldwide to vote for candidates who will help preserve, secure, and develop our homeland against Annexation and not for a political party.
"Over the Years especially since the return to democratical rule in 1999, the Itsekiri Nation has been under constant threat of annexation and bulkanization of our homeland especially during and after the now 'famous Warri Crisis'
"Today, our homeland is littered with abandoned projects, and our riverine areas faces threats of being washed away by ocean surge.
"Today, places like Ode-Ugborodo, Ogidigben, Ajudaibo, Orere, Ogheye, Ekekporo, etc are being washed into the sea with nothing being done about by the current government both at State and Federal level.
"With the PIA, and our new Monarch it's imperative we vote in a government who will partner the Itsekiri Nation to key into the vision of His Imperial Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri to transform our homeland with a holistic development Master Plan.
"We believe strongly that our votes will count more with the electronic transmission of results and our voices will be heard as we make the right choices because self preservation is key for our future."
