Forty ex-militants cutting across different states in the Niger Delta have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint Chairman of Egbema Gbaramatu Communities’ Development Foundation, EGCDF, Chief Michael Johnny as Chairman of Presidential Amnesty programme, describing him as “a reputable, trustworthy and reliable son” of the Niger Delta, especially against his antecedent of consistently fighting “against corruption and oppression in Niger Delta”.
In an open letter dated June 8, 2015 and addressed to President Buhari, the ex-militants which includes Gen. Young Shall Grow, Gen. Bonny Gawei, Gen. Francis Muturu a.k.a Aboy, King Jerry and Gen. Gentle Dele, opined that some persons are secretly projecting someone from Bayelsa State because they are afraid Chief Michael Johnny, a Chieftain of the APC from Gbaramatu, Warri South-West Local Government Area in Delta State “would not allow them to continue the mismanagement of the Amnesty funds”.
According to them, the pioneer Chairman of Amnesty Programme, Chief Timi Alaibe is from Bayelsa State, while the immediate past Chairman of the Amnesty Programme as well as former Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta, Hon. Kingsley Kuku is from Ondo State, stressing that it is only equitable and fair for Delta State to produce the next Chairman of the programme.
