Atie demands N 20 million from Fresh Angle International

Warri based legal practitioner, Barr. Jemide Atie has demanded a retraction of Fresh Angle International report wherein he was referred to as Counsel to Comrade Alero Naomi Tenumah led National Association of Itsekiri Graduates, NAIG in a suit filed in the High Court 2, Warri against Messrs Ajueyitse Martins Otuedon and Ireden Kessington, both of whom are members of NAIG Board of Trustees, saying the words published about him “is not only untrue but totally unfounded” insisting he “has never been a counsel in the said proceedings and /or ever put in any appearance for either of the contending parties”.

In a petition dated May 22, 2015 and delivered to Fresh Angle International office at about 3:24pm Friday June 12, 2015, Barr. Ajemide Atie through his Counsel, F.O. Olokor & Co, also noted “that the statement/remarks accredited to the trial judge” about him “were also untrue as no such statement/remarks was made about (referring to the alleged suspension of his practicing licence by NBA)” him, as he “never participated in the said proceedings before the trial judge”, Hon. Justice F.O. Ohwo.

He warned that if Fresh Angle International fails to retract the “said unfounded and offensive publication about” him, “within one calendar month from the date of your receipt of this letter and pay the sum of N 20, 000, 000.00 (twenty million naira) for “the injuries/damages suffered as a result of your said false, untrue unfounded and libelous matters/words published” about his person he will seek legal redres

Fresh Angle International, in her reaction, stated that several entreaties made by the legal practitioner to the Editor through different intermediaries either via phone calls and inter personal communications were received with the greatest sense of responsibility, as he consistently told those who intervened to prevail on Barr. Atie to issue a refutal, correcting aspects of the report which were misrepresentation (especially the area which mistakenly state that Barr. Atie was the Counsel of Comrade Tenumah led NAIG), stressing that “the medium is ever willing to publish the true position both in her online portal and in her hard copy”.

Fresh Angle International commended Barr. Atie for his professionalism and apologized for whatever embarrassment the publication might have caused him, saying Fresh Angle International is a professional print and online media poised to report all sides of the story.
