Youths from the different organizations and communities across Itsekiri land, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Hon. David Tonwe led leadership of Itsekiri National Youth Council, INYC at Hon. Tonwe’s private residence in Warri, Delta State, expressing satisfaction with the running of the Council and subsequently passing a vote of confidence on the executive of the INYC.

The youths who decried the plummeting of the values, integrity, accountability and lack of veritable leadership in the Nation today, expressed the strong view that the Comrade David Tonwe led exco has demonstrated exceptional uprightness and skilful devotion to the cause of the Itsekiri people. They described Hon. David Tonwe as a worthy leader.

The youths asked for forgiveness from the exco of the INYC for the misleading and misguided comments and views they had expressed in the past against the leadership of the INYC.

According to the leader of the delegation, Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, the youths have deliberated on the developments in Itsekiri land in the past decade and come to realize that the only way that meaningful development could be guaranteed in Itsekri land is when the dividing ranks are closed and personal interests relegated to the background. “We as youths of this great tribe have come to better recognition of the roles of the different leaders in Iwere land and conclude very high sense of responsibility that the proper direction to drive in the present day Itsekiri, is that piloted by the David Tonwe led exco of the INYC”.

Comrade Weyinmi Agbateyiniro and his colleagues implored the INYC to increase the engagement of youths from different communities and organizations in the pursuit of a better life for the people. They pledged their unflinching support for the leadership of the INYC and called on all youths of Iwere origin to rally around the INYC to ensure the rapid progress and development in the land.

Reacting to the address of the youths, Comrade David Tonwe thanked them for the positive step which they had taken and noted that conflict is a natural part of life. “Conflict is an integral part of human existence; it is the way we handle it that could result in hurts or enrichment. I am convinced that the mistakes that you guys made are genuine and as such you are pardoned. The INYC looks forward to engaging you in more creative ways in our future activities as the tribe is not the property of any person but a collective heritage.”

Comrade David Tonwe urged the youths not to be distracted by disgruntled elements attempting to undermine the collective will of the people. He argued: “There is no single individual that can be greater than a nation no matter the amount of money that individual might think he has.”

Speaking further, Comrade David Tonwe stressed the point that the building of institutions in any society is always preferable to that of individuals. He emphasized the need for the closing of ranks in the interest of the tribe in general.

In attendance were the INYC Secretary, Dorsu Isaac, the P.R.O, Abigor Gbubemi, Provost Marshall, Erebo Lori, Ex-Officio members, Mike Odeli, Lucky Pessu, David Mene and other high ranking officials of the Council.
