A Non-Governmental Organization, Oil Spill Victims Vanguard, OSPIVV, has vowed to prosecute the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and other International Oil Companies, over ‘the secret’ 4 kilometers crude oil pipeline recently exposed by Tantita Security Service limited, a company belonging to High Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.
Our Senior Correspondent reports that the Executive Director of OSPIVV, Prince Harrison Jalla, made the vow Friday October 14 in Warri, Delta State, during a press conference organized to address the menace of economic damage and environmental hazards, caused by the activities of crude oil thieves in the Niger Delta.
According to Prince Jalla, OSPIVV will hold the NNPC and Shell Petroleum Development Company accountable for the atrocity being committed in the oil and gas sectors, saying the companies, will explain to the court and the people, why they allowed such illicit trading to go on without stopping it.
He alleged that crude oil theft has been going on in the country since 2003, without stoppage, before the recent onslaught against the economic saboteurs, adding that the increasing water hyacinth in the Niger Delta, is an indication of water pollution. “Water hyacinth feeds on the living in a polluted environment”, Jalla, stated.
An Environmental Consultant and Environmental Law/ Pollution Control Activist, Hossana Jalogho Williams, who also addressed the media, said the Niger Delta is massively underdeveloped and NNPC should explain to the people why they didn't uncover the environmental pollution caused by the economic saboteurs, operating in the Niger Delta.
He stressed that stealing crude oil from pipelines and its spills, cause cancer among inhabitants in the Niger Delta.
The Public Relations Officer of OSPIVV, Pst. Alloy Okerieke, explained that the essence of the media briefing, was for the media and members of the public to get abreast with the happenings in the Niger Delta.
The press statement of OSPIVV, stated inter-alia: “4KM SECRET CRUDE OIL PIPELINE LOCATED AT FORCADOS TERMINAL-SHELL GROUP AND NNPC MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
"The Oil Spill Victims Vanguard, is a nongovernmental organization (NGO) Incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) OSPIVV initiative whose one of its main objective, is dedicated to fight to transparency and accountability in the extractive industries in Nigeria.
“Since 2003, in the light of the above OSPIVV has briefed its external solicitors to immediately file an action against the Shell group and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation NNPC."
