On assumption of office May 29, 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari who sounded it loud and clear that the fight against corruption and insurgency are paramount to his administration, was greeted same day with a vicious attack by Boko Haram.
And the bloody activity of the sect was awakened and fresh fears as well as worries enveloped the country. Even the immediate sub regional travels and US trip did not deter the insurgents from continuing their heartless attacks, thus prompting critics of the Buhari administration of accusing him of ‘failing in the fight against Boko Haram’.
Reports that some members of the sect are now willing to surrender to the Federal Government is quite reassuring.
Despite the security challenge confronting the APC led Federal Government, the administration has within the brief spell create a lead that has made critical institutions alive to their responsibilities for the first time in almost a decade, power generation is nearing 5,000 megawatts, while foreign reserves are growing by the weeks following the blockage of leakages.
There are also reports that the consolidated federation account is being credited by parastatals like NNPC and NNLG without Petroleum and Finance Ministers, even as State Governments got N 413.07 billion to offset salary arrears.
Anti graft agencies like EFCC and ICPC have suddenly woken up to the task of prosecuting corrupt political and Government Officials, while the United States and her European allies are now freezing accounts of looted funds, with promise of working towards selling arms to the country to assist in crushing Boko Haram.
The Nation’s four refineries that were surprisingly comatose during the last administration are now working and efforts are being consolidated to cut down government recurrent expenditure.
The import is that, with more time our economy will record growth.
