A coalition of development-driven groups in the Niger Delta under the aegis of Eager Network For Development of Niger Delta Region, ENDNDR has joined the call for the appointment of former Manager of PPMC, Engr. Abubakar Yar’Adua as the next Petroleum Minister.

The group in a statement released weekend by its Leader and Coordinator, Hon. Griftson Timeyin Omatsuli noted, “the 13 billion US dollars in NLNG dividends mostly unaccounted for, the 160 billion barrels of crude worth 13.9 billion US dollars lost between 2009 and 2012, the Department of Petroleum Resources’ unremitted 109.7 billion naira royalty from oil firms, the 2.1 billion US dollars from Excess Crude Account unaccounted for as well as the 3.8 trillion naira out of the 8.1 trillion naira earned from crude oil between 2012 and 2015 allegedly withheld by the NNPC as claimed by the All Progressives Congress National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has made it extremely vital for the incorruptible Engr. Abubakar Yar’ Adua to be appointed the next Petroleum Minister by President Muhammadu Buhari”.

According to the Niger Delta group, during his time as GED and later GMD of the NNPC, Engr. Yar’ Adua fought against crude oil theft, fuel scarcity and controversial payment of subsidy, even as “he ensured that the Nation’s refineries worked in their installed capacity”.

They opined that Engr. Yar’ Adua’s experience and intelligence will come to bear in President Buhari’s on-going efforts to sanitize the Petroleum Sector and reposition the economy.
