The Swali Community in Atissa Clan in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, decried the deplorable state of the area in terms of road network amongst others.
The Community Development Committee, CDC Chairman, Comrade Thomas David in an interview fumed at the lackadaisical attitude of government towards the development of the community.
Comrade David who stated that the community has about nine internal roads but to no avail has there been effort of the government to see to their plight in the construction of those roads to ease their movement and better their living despite series of promises in previous times.
He said if those roads were to be constructed, it would go a long way to ameliorating the sufferings of the indigenous people and residents in the area as they go on with their businesses.
"Nevertheless, we are the geese that lay the golden eggs, as government had acquired all our farm lands, depriving us from farming as part of our occupation without adequate compensation. Moreover, Swali Community owns over 85% of the Central Business District ( CBD) acquired land" Swali Community fumed.
The Swali community cried out loud for the refusal to implement the 15% parcel of land promised to her from the CDB land, before, during and after acquisition.
The Swali community through its Secretary General, Sinikiem Ogari reminded the member representing Yenagoa Constituency I Hon. (Dr.) Parkinson Markmanuel as put in quote, "I will personally bring the governor to Swali Town in respect of this road network and make sure that the roads are constructed". So we are waiting for you and the Governor of Bayelsa State, Hon.
Henry Seriake Dickson (De Countryman Governor) for the construction of the roads or NO BULK VOTE AGAIN.
The Community thus required that in respect of the acquired Central Business District, CBD land which an inadequate compensation was made with an outstanding balance of "Ten Million Naira left unpaid by the Bayelsa State Government should be rectified in no distant time.
