Delta Poly Students set to showcase cultural heritage

Students of Aniocha/Oshimili extraction in Delta State studying at Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro in Isoko North Local Government Area have finalized arrangement to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Aniocha/Oshimili people as part of the institution’s annual cultural day celebration beginning from Thursday August 27, Our Bomadi Correspondent reports.

Fresh Angle International gathered that as part of activities leading to the event, the students’ body has lined up a series of programme which includes cultural exhibition, dressing in native attire, drama as well as traditional dance steps that will depict the Anioma people and their way of life.

Speaking to Our Correspondent, Chairman of Senior Staff Association of the Institution, Comrade Ossai Nwachukwu noted that the aim of the cultural showpiece is to unite the Anioma Nation in a bid to engender the spirit of oneness and display to the world the uniqueness of the Anioma culture.

Patron of Aniocha/Oshimili students’ association and lecturer in Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, Mr. Raymond Izukwe while highlighting the uniqueness of Aniocha/Oshimili custom and tradition, said the association was put in place by students to advance the tradition and custom of the Aniocha/Oshimili ethnic nationality.

He enjoined the students to be proud of their culture and advised them not to engage in cultism as well as other acts capable of destroying their academic life and future.

On his part, President of the Aniocha/Oshimili Students’ Association, Comrade Chidi Isaiah thanked Rector of the Institution for the opportunity given them to exhibit their cultural identity in a multi-ethnic Institution, just as he underscored the importance of cultural identity in a country where the infiltration of Western Culture is fast eroding the African cultural values.

The Student Union President used the occasion to commend the efforts of an illustrious son of Aniocha/Oshimili Nation, Bernard Okocha for his contributions to the growth and development of
the Aniocha/Oshimili Nation and appealed to other sons and daughters of Aniocha/Oshimili Nation to support the student body in their quest to stage a successful cultural day.

Members of the Executive of the Students’ body include:  Igwenma Precious-Vice President, Ubaka Helen-Secretary General, Udoka Nwaokoro-Asst. Secretary and Uche Allah- Provost.

Others are: Onwunsah Jeffrey- Financial Secretary, Okonkwor Helen- Omu, Ebenezer Jennifer- PRO and Madu Destiny- Ike Obi.
