A pregnant woman and a female Police Officer were among seven persons that escaped death Wednesday September 9, 2015, when a section of popular hotel in Effurun, Delta State, Mekaval Hotel and Suites collapsed at about 3:00am, Fresh Angle International can authoritatively report.
Eye witnesses told Our Correspondents that the section of the hotel, which was built over ten years ago, situating directly behind the main structure collapsed, leaving seven guests lodging in the hotel yelling and crying for rescue.
Owner of the hotel whose name was not disclosed was said to have dashed to the scene immediately he was alerted and the shock that enveloped him made his blood pressure to rise. He was immediately rushed to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention, even as the police woman who sustained minor injuries, the pregnant woman and the five other persons were taken to a nearby private hospital as soon as they were rescued.
It was gathered that one of the victims who was in the toilet inside one of the three-storey building hotel was the last to be rescued at about 10:00am, seven hours after the hotel collapsed.
Officials of the Nigerian Red Cross and Police were on hand for rescue operations as well as to prevent possible vandalism, even as the Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro came to the scene at about 11:00am.
Brother to the hotel owner, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu Mukolu who spoke to newsmen claimed there was no sign of the building collapsing despite suggestions that the structure was erected in a tiny swamping plot against advice of some older staff of the hotel.
