The Regent of Warri Kingdom, Prince Eroro Emiko says the Itsekiri people across the world are happy in their moment of sadness following the demise of Ogiame Atuwatse II, late Olu of Warri, noting that they chose an Olu designate without rancor.

Prince Eroro Emiko made the remark Saturday October 10 at the Olu of Warri Palace, Warri, Delta State, when a delegation of the National Assembly paid a condolence visit to the Itsekiri Nation.

According to Prince Emiko, the Itsekiri Nation is preparing for the funeral rites of the late Olu of Warri and adequate arrangements are also being made for the coronation ceremony of the Olu designate, Prince Godfrey Ikenwoli Emiko.

He thanked the Senate for commiserating with Delta State government, its people and the Itsekiri Nation on the demise of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwase II, stating that the deceased was “a very powerful Royal Father, a man of peace who made his contributions to the growth of our State and the Nation, but this visit has shown that Nigerians appreciate him more than we thought.”

Earlier, the visiting Senate delegation led by Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya told the Regent that they were in the palace on behalf of the Senate President and other members of the National Assembly to identify with the Itsekiri people of Delta State on the demise of the Olu of Warri.

He presented a condolence letter on behalf of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to the Regent, while a minute silence in honour of the deceased Olu was observed.

Our Correspondent reports that former Governors Godswill Akpabio, Theodore Oji and Ishiaku Adeleke were in the Senate delegation. Others are Senators James Manager and Ighoyota Amori, while Hon. Daniel Reyenieju and Idisi were in attendance.

They were received at the palace at precisely 1.05 pm by the Regent, Palace Chiefs, family members and hundreds of Itsekiri youths as well as women.
