The Itsekiri Benin River Pressure Group, IBRPG has described the call by Urhobo Youths Vanguard on the Delta State Government to ignore the seven-day ultimatum given by Itsekiri Joint Action Group, IJAG to the State Government to address perceived marginalization of Itsekiri as "vexatious and an affront on the entire Itsekiri Nation".
The IBRPG in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Raymond Aderojor and Secretary, E.O.T. Ekpoto on Friday October 30, vowed that it "shall ensure that all pipelines and flow stations hosted by Itsekiri communities in Benin River are permanently shut down as soon as the ultimatum expires Monday November 2, 2015", while"IJAG is shutting down the headquarters and offices of DESOPADEC".
The statement made available exclusively to Fresh Angle International in Sapele, affirmed that the shutting down of the commission as proclaimed by IJAG will be total and irreversible, both on land and in the creeks.
According to the group, the ultimatum by IJAG is a "legitimate pursuit of the rights and privileges of Itsekiri as critical stakeholders in the Oil and Gas sector, particularly against the fact of being the highest producer of crude oil in Delta State".
