As part of effortsto lure youths of riverine communities to return home, Chairman of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC and Chief Executive Officer of Awaritse Nig. Ltd, Hon. Godwin Ebosa has offered to give five permanent job slots to any Obitugbo community youth that is prepared to reside in the desolate and long abandoned Itsekiri ancient town following the seven years Ijaw/Itsekiri sanguinary war.
Hon. Ebosa made the pledge at Obitugbo community in Warri North Council Area of Delta State, Tuesday December 15 during the grand reception organized by the leadership of the community to honour and adopt him as an indigene of Obitugbo “in recognition of his immense contribution to the physical and infrastructural development as well as growth of the once deserted community”.
Hon Ebosa, a former Chairman of Warri North Local Government Council said the five youths so employed would be graded according to their education qualifications, even as he commended Obitugbo people for their hospitality, steadfastness and honesty in their dealings with him, including the protection of his massive investment in Obitugbo.
He promised to continue his support and diligent commitment towards the transformation of the community which he stated is fast becoming a choice location for genuine investors. He also enjoined the youths to remain peaceful and law-abiding at all times to attract the much needed development.
Chairman of Obitugbo Community, Mr. Lawrence Ukubeyinje in his welcome address, said Hon. Godwin Ebosa has made them proud and happy, saying that he is somebody with a capacity for venturing into areas where “even the devil dread to tread and also a man with unlimited capacity for taking genuine business risk that has helped in exposing the long dormant potentials of Obitugbo as an international investment destination”.
According to Mr. Ukubeyinje, a one-time Secretary to the then Warri South Council, Hon. Ebosa business acumen, sagacity, humility and an astute politician stood him out as an outstanding personality of no mean integrity deserving of their appreciation and honour as he has brought into the community a petroleum product Tank farm and dockyard that has provided employment for the youths of the community with its multiplier effect in the areas economic, transportation, residential and social boom to the town that now boast of good road network, street lights in conjunction with the state government, an ultra-modern civic centre housing the community town hall, conference/guest rooms, sports/catering facilities amongst others when fully completed
Mr. Ukubeyinje also disclosed that the community has provided over 365 acres of land for the proposed University of Warri and further announced the donation of another 1 acre of free land to the DESOPADEC Chairman through a letter of conveyance read to the gathering by Mr. Justice Akuyoma and handed over to him for immediate possession and development as a token of their appreciation to him.
