A meeting convened at about midday Wednesday February 24 by Itsekiri leaders of Olero Communities in Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State, could not hold and was abruptly suspended following the invasion of the venue, Modeli’s Hotel in Ugbuwangue by an unidentified youth, who allegedly sprayed substance suspected to be teargas canisters.
There are seven Olero Communities, including Tebu, Ajamitan, Gbokoda, Jakpa as well as Udo and indication emerged that two of the communities, Tebu and Gbokoda are having two parallel executive.
Fresh Angle International gathered that the meeting was convened by prominent leaders of the Central Olero Field, with a view to forging a common front by working on modalities that will lead to the emergence of new leadership in-line with the directive of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
A leader in Olero who spoke to Fresh Angle International on condition of anonymity, stated that there is no plan to impose leadership on any of the seven communities, but to create a platform that will ensure transparency in the election of new community representatives in Chevron established Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC.
