Enforcement of Bylaw on Girl-Child Education, do-able in Warri South-West, says House Leader

The Leader of Warri South-West Legislative Arm in Delta State, Rt. Hon. Emiko Odin-Etuwewe, says enforcement of bylaw on Girl-child Education, is do-able in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that Rt. Hon Odin-Etuwere, expressed the optimism during a one-day public hearing on: “A BILL FOR A BYLAW TO ENFORCE THE GIRL CHILD EDUCATION IN PRIMARY SCHOOL LEVEL / PROVISION OF LEARNING MATERIALS/INCENTIVES FROM THE WARRI SOUTH-WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL", held Friday June 2, at the King George Hall in Warri South Council Sub-Secretariat, in Warri.

 

He explained that the Bill was initiated, to curb the neglect of girl-child education as well mandate the local government council, to provide incentives to boost education in the local government area.

Rt. Hon. Odin-Etuwewe, lamented the pains observed amongst promising female children, whose education and future are badly affected by teenage pregnancies.

 

A keynote speaker, Orode Uduaghan pointed out that education is key to improving economic growth, sustain peace and unity.

She challenged stakeholders: "If you don't treat female children well, you are indirectly destroying the society".

 

Whilst noting that out of the 20 million out-of-school children across Nigeria in the year 2022, 10 percent were female, Uduaghan solicited support for passage of the Bill by the Warri South-West Legislature and speedy assent by the Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government, Hon. Taiye Duke Tuoyo.

 

Wife of the Olu of Warri, Olori Atuwatse III, who was Mother of the Day and Royal Guest of Honour, commended Rt. Hon. Odin-Etuwewe for initiating the Bill, saying it would lead to the betterment of the girl-child in securing better future and protection, especially in the education sector as well as other sphere of life.

 

The Queen, encouraged parents to start educating their female children, from the age of five and create good learning and hospitable atmosphere, for their children to leverage on, while pursuing their education.

 

The Monarch’s wife, charged parents to discourage early child pregnancy, describing it as alarming, just as she urged Legislative Arms of other local government Councils, to emulate the move by Warri South-West Legislative Arm.

 

The Chairman of NULGE, Warri South-West Local Government Council, Comrade Asakpi Richardson, Vice President of National Association of Izon Ebe Students, Nesiama Deborah Seigha and the Head of Community Development/Information Department, Warri South-West Local Government Council, Mrs. Yvonne Suowari, were among prominent stakeholders that witnessed the Public Hearing.
