Warri South 2024: Oborevwori faces intriguing pressure from sponsors of Chairmanship aspirants

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, appears to be facing his first major test as far as who succeeds Dr. Michael Tidi as Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area is concerned, with seemingly powerful forces sponsoring the different chairmanship aspirants, mounting pressure on the former Delta State Speaker, to back their choice.

Pieces of information available to Fresh Angle International, revealed that the interested aspirants, include the immediate past Commissioner, who represented Itsekiri Ethnic Nationality in the Board of DESOPADEC, Hon. Griftson Timeyin Omatsuli, former Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm and current Councilor, Hon. Jude Onovughe Igherebuo, Majority Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi-Awani, former President of Itsekiri National Youth Council/Itsekiri National Youth Congress, INYC, Comrade Esimaje Vincent Awani, Dr. Toyin Agbolaya, Chairman of PDP, Ekurede/Ugbori Ward, Mr. Emiko Oghomienor and Comrade Monoyo Edon.

Feelers suggest that Hon. Griftson Omatsuli, who was favourite of the Chief (Dr.) Joseph Otumara, PDP leadership in Warri South Local Government for the Chairmanship position, prior to the emergence of Dr. Tidi less than six years ago, allegedly remains the choice of the Chief Otumara political family, ahead of the forthcoming Delta LG polls. Comrade Esimaje Awani, who campaigned vigorously for the governorship ambition of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, in the last Gubernatorial/House of Assembly Elections, may be banking solely on a ‘confidence pillar’, unknown as at the time of this report, even as speculations mount that Dr. Toyin Agbolaya, may get the endorsement of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, as a result of his close ties with the Warri Monarch.

Hon. Jude Onovughe Igherebuo, a former Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, with parentage cutting across Okere-Urhobo and Itsekiri Nation, may be relying on push from Okere-Urhobo Kingdom and his ties with a broad spectrum of intermediate Itsekiri PDP leaders, as a home-grown ‘Warri Boy’.

It is believed that grassroots PDP Chieftain, Mr. Emiko Oghomienor, is the prime choice of the member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Chief (Dr.) Thomas Ereyitomi, Hon. Godwin Ebosa and Hon. Michael Diden, even though one of Chief Ereyitomi’s  aides, Mr. Emma Nunu, is rumoured to be interested in the Warri South plum job as well.

Whilst Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi-Awani, who enjoys robust relationship with Dr. Michael Tidi and some prominent Itsekiri political leaders across political party lines, may be a dark horse in the Chairmanship race, Broadcaster and Image Maker of Ifie-kporo Community in Warri South Local Government, Comrade Monoyo Edon, could be the choice of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
