Alledged Perjury: Concerned Ondo Patriots Ask Senate Not To Clear Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo As Minister
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo

The Senate has been asked not to clear Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, the Ministerial Nominee from Ondo State.

In a petition copied to Newsmen, a Group known as Concerned Ondo Patriots, said the two term House of Representatives Member from Ondo State has alledgedly committed perjury, urged the Senate not to clear him.

According to the petition signed by Bamidele Okere and Musiliu Babatunde, the nominee they said lied and forged the NYSC certificate he presented.

The copy of the NYSC certificate with no FC/FRN/2019/724075, issued to journalists showed that the nominee served between 28th November 2019 to 27th November 2020 same time he was in the House of Representatives.

Our Kogi State Correspondent reports that Hon. Ojo was first elected into the House of Representatives in June 2019, said he couldn't have served while in the lower House of the National Assembly.

The Ministerial Nominee who was Chairman NDDC in his first term, is currently a Chairman of another Committee in his second term, was nominated as a Minister from Ondo State.

The Concerned Ondo Patriots lamented that it was wrong for the Senate in it tradition to have asked the Nominee to take a bow, when his NYSC certificate showed that it was signed on 28th February, 2023.

The Patriots in their submission said the NYSC certificate tendered by Hon. Ojo also has his picture, with date of birth of 01/May/1982 described the certificate as alledgedly forged, leading to perjury.

The Patriots notes that Hon. Ojo claimed to have graduated from a London University in 2006 at age 25, said the law still permit for service for people within the age of 35 years.

The Concerned Ondo Patriots therefore called on the Senate not to clear the Nominee, urged the Senate to be mindful that the said offense of perjury is in the public space, said the Senate will ridicule the respect and sanctity of the Senate if it goes ahead to clear the Nominee from Ondo State.
