There was jubilation among staffers of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Friday August 4, when information filtered in that management of the Commission, has suspended the use of clocking machine as attendance register.
Fresh Angle International, gathered from credible sources within the Commission that the suspension, automatically cancelled a staff congress scheduled for Monday August 7.
This Newspaper, scooped that the aborted DESOPADEC staff congress, was to address alleged non - payment and unjustifiable salary deductions by the biometric section of the Commission.
When contacted on telephone this morning, Saturday August 5, DESOPADEC Staff Spokesman, Comr. Destiny Noritsegho, refused to comment if there was DESOPADEC staff congress billed for Monday August 7, but applauded decision of the Commission's management to suspend the use of clocking machine as attendance register.
According to Comr. Noritsegho, majority of staff of the Commission, could no meet up with the recent high cost of transportation, occasioned by Federal government's removal of fuel subsidy.
Noritsegho, stated: " A breath of fresh air for DESOPADEC staff as management suspends the use of clocking machine.
"On behalf of the entire staff of DESOPADEC, we say thank you to the Chief John O. Nani Esq. -Chairman, Chief Festus M. Ochonogor -MD/CEO , Chief Ogenekome Reginald Okpobor- Executive Director Finance and Administration and Most especially, His Excellency, RT. HON. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Executive Governor of Delta State, for listening and responding positively to the cry of DESOPADEC staff
"This is definitely a sign that the campaign promises he made to DESOPADEC staff on the 15th of March, 2023 at his country home in Osubi, when the entire staff visited him (HE)will surely see the light of day."
Though the memo, announcing the suspension, which was dated August 3 and signed by the Commission's Director of Administration and Supplies, Ifowodo F. F., for the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, did not indicate any possibility of salary increment, there are speculations that management of the Commission, may review staff salary upwards, in view of the current hardship, being faced as a result of deregulation of the downstream sector by the federal government.
