2023 Publishers’ Media Week: Funkekeme to Give Talk as Guest Speaker


 

Senior Policy Adviser to Governor of Delta State, Rt. (Hon) Funkekeme Solomon will be giving a talk as Guest Speaker at the 2023 Publisher’s Media Week Lecture/Award ceremony.

 

The event which Will feature Lecture/Award ceremony with theme: “The Role of Media , Building Synergy Between The Government And Grassroots For Effective Service Delivery”will attract dignitaries from different walks of life in the state and beyond.

 

According to the press statement signed by the Chairman and Secretary of 2023 Publisher’s Media Week Committee, Comrade Philip Ike Abiagom and Solomon Ogala disclosed that Gov Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State will be attending the occasion as Special Guest of Honour while HRM Amb. Donald Ejechi Ekeruche, Ebu of Umuebu Kingdom and HRM Obi Fredrick Chukwuloe Egbunkonye II, Igwe Of Abala kingdom are Royal Fathers of the Day.

 

The occasion which is slated for 30th November,2023 will take place at the Secretariat of Nigeria Union Of Journalists (NUJ).

 

The annual event of the Community Newspaper Publishers under the aegis of Association Of Community Newspaper Publishers Of Nigeria (ACNPN) is where the body recognizes those who have distinguished themselves in their business community and

Political development.

 

The core mandate of the Association is to regulates the activities of it members in the interest of creating enabling business environment, advocate for good governance,proper grassroots reportage, adherence to professional ethics.

 

 Funkekeme who is a seasoned journalist, has presented numerous papers in different workshops and seminars that transformed individuals and corporate organizations in growth and development.

 

Rt. Honourable Funkekeme Solomon was born in the 60s in Ojobo, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, began his educational pursuit at Zuokumor Primary School in 1971 and later attended Gbesa Grammar School, Ojobo, College of Education Abraka, Edo State University, Ekpoma where he bagged the Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education before proceeding to Leeds Metopolitan University, United Kingdom for his Master’s in Corporate Governance, specializing in Corporate Social Responsibility in 2010.

 

In 1990, he did his National Service in Radio Nigeria Enugu where he worked as Editor 11.

 

Funkekeme was English and Literature teacher at the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) Warri from 1990 to 1991, Part-time lecturer, Department of English, College of Education Warri 1991 to 1992, Chief Press Secretary to the pioneer Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly 1992 to 1993, Deputy Project Coordinator, Pointer Newspaper 1994 to 1995 and Media Consultant to late Chief Judge of Delta State, Justice James Omo-Agege 1997 to 1998.

 

Rt (Hon) Funkekeme Solomon was elected into the Delta State House of Assembly in 1999 and was there till 2011 representing the Burutu Two constituency.

 

As a member of the Delta State House of Assembly then, Rt. Hon Funkekeme Solomon served as Minority Leader from 1999 to 2005, Chairman Art and Culture Committee 2005 to 2007, Deputy Speaker and Chairman Tenders Board 2007 to 2008 and Chairman Public Accounts Committee 2008 to June 3, 2011 when he left the Assembly.

 

He was appointed Commissioner for Works by Former Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr)

Arthur Okowa.

 

In the State Executive Council, Fukekeme Solomon served as Vice Chairman State Tenders Board, member State Boundary Committee, Chairman Management Committee of Squash/Leisure club, Government House, member Procurement Reform Committee and member SEEFOR Steering Committee.

 

In the first tenure of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Fukekeme served as Chairman Governing Council of the Delta State Polytechnic Ozoro from 2015 to 2019.

 

Also, he has been a member of PDP State Caucus from 2011 till date, member PDP Secretariat Building Fund Raising Committee 2011, Secretary PDP governorship re-run planning and campaign committee for the January 6, 2011 election, Secretary to Council and Director of Administration PDP Campaign Council 2011, PDP state agent in all 2011 elections and PDP agent, Local Government elections 2014.

 

Funkekeme Solomon was also a member PDP Campaign Council in 2015 where he was Director of Communications, PDP state agent in all 2015 elections and member 2015 Transition Committee.

 

Rt (Hon) Funkekeme Solomon was Secretary Delta State PDP ad-hoc Reconciliation Committee 2016, Chairman Steering Committee PDP State Mega rally 2018, Director-General PDP Campaign Organisation and Secretary to the State Campaign Council 2019 and member Transition Committee 2019. Funkekeme Solomon also served as member PDP National Convention Committee in 2018.

 

He was founding National Chairman of Delta Ijaw Collective Agenda, founding Publicity Secretary of the G-3), National Secretary of the group and Secretary Forum of Non Sitting members of the Delta State House of Assembly.

 

He was Senior Political Adviser to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and have received numerous awards from various corporate organizations in the country.
