PIA: Ugborodo indigenes stage rally in Escravos River, four days to expiration of NUPRC's  renewed ultimatum to SPDC, Chevron

Indigenes of Ugborodo Community in Warri South - West Local Government Area of Delta state, today, Wednesday December 27, staged boat rally round the Escravos River, to remind the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC and their Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL counterpart, that the renewed ultimatum handed down to them by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, to implement the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA, is getting very close.                           

 

Fresh Angle International gathered that the NUPRC had renewed the earlier two - week ultimatum given to the two multinational oil and gas companies at a meeting held in its Warri Office on December 11.                    

 

In the tripartite meeting convened by the NUPRC and attended by Officials of Chevron Nigeria Limited and representatives of the company's Itsekiri host communities, the Commission, stated that the fresh two weeks deadline starts December 11 and ends December 25, with an extended grace of December 31, 2023, granted as a result of public holidays.                   

 

A leader in Ugborodo Community, who spoke to This Newspaper this evening l on condition of anonymity via telephone , declined disclosing if the management of Shell Petroleum Development Company and Chevron Nigeria Limited, were already discussing with the leadership of the host communities, with a view to delineating the Host Communities Development Trust, HCDT in - line with the provisions of the PIA, as mandated by the NUPRC, but averred: " The end of NUPRC deadline of December 31, New Year Eve, will reveal our next line of action."
