Support initiative of Social media- Convener Kogi Media award begs Government

Government at all level have been called upon to support social media initiative which remains a panacea for good governance and peaceful coexistence among citizenry especially the youths in the society.

The convener, Kogi Social Media Awards, (KSMA) Dansofo Usman made the call on Thursday at a Press conference held at Majesty International College, Lokoja, Kogi State.

He noted that, the yearly event is to recognize and encourage kogi youths to continually create content that will be beneficial to the public in solving critical life problems and bringing positive change to the society at large.

He added that the Kogi social media award is designed to recognize excellence in content creation, Impact innovation and those who have been able to carve a niche for themselves in their various social media platforms.

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that Usman stressed the need for the youths to utilize these platforms in promoting their brands, just as he admonished Kogites to do away with political rivalry, hate speeches, propaganda and mitigating conflicts among others.

While giving a background about the Kogi State Social Media Award, Usman said "This event was established in 2018 as a yearly event to recognize and encourage Kogi citizens to continually promote and create exceptional contents daily to solve critical life problems; thereby giving many people a reason to smile whenever they visit their platforms.

"It is also to promote cultural integration, unity/peace among users of these channels and to further enhance social interactions. 

The Kogi State social Media awards is one of such platforms creating positive change in our society. 

"The awards is geared towards promoting social media for social good. We intend to give back to the society in appreciation, what it has already inputed. This we are doing using the social Media space to gauge handles from the different users by voting online for the institutions, groups, corporate organizations and individual categories of their choices in a very transparent and regular manner.

"The Kogi Social Media Awards (KSMA) recognizes excellence in content creation, impact, innovation and is ready to award voted talents in various fields, who have carved a niche for themselves by leveraging the social media platform.

"KSMA is a platform to honor the brilliant brains and practitioners of blogs that have put the social media to good use in promoting their discipline, business, corporate social responsibility to better the lot of humanity.

"As social media and blogs grow to be the new powerful tools of influence in information communication technology, this event is to connect everyone in highlighting the work of some of the best from the social media fraternity of global and local social media practitioners.

"The Awards is focused on nominations and entries from all social media users in Kogi state via all social media platforms.

Vision: To be a catalyst for changing the narrative on the social media space, using the platform as a tool for Promoting peaceful coexistence, tolerance and socio-economic development.

According to him, the mission of the organization is to contribute to the peace, unity, tourism potential, progress and development of Kogi state through social media useful engagements. 

He explained further that, there will be a pre-award lecture for this year event, stressing that, it will center on the use of the social media and influence of education. 

Continuing, Usman said "It will be a lecture that will have three sessions with keynote speakers and resource persons on supporting topics.

The aim is to engineer a paradigm shift from the recent state of mutual suspicion, political rivalry, hate speech, propaganda and mitigating conflict situations on the Kogi social media space, and engaging conversations for the enhancement of healthy growth within the Kogi online community.

"The Three Cardinal Points of the Lecture is focused on using the social media to promote business and entrepreneurial skills, politics and good governance and peaceful coexistence and tolerance amongst the citizenry especially the youths that form the bulk of social media users and how effectively we can use the platform for proper branding. 

He averred further that Kogi Social Media Awards is undoubtedly the 1st Kogis Biggest Awards, adding that, the awards official page on facebook has over 30,000 followers and has the capacity to reach over 10million audience through posts, post shares and ads while the website, www.ksma.com.ng receives not less than 10,000 site visitors or views per day.

He, however, thanked Oga film, the organizer of Kogi Social Media awards, and Majesty Movies international for taking up the sponsorship of this year's event.
