The Managing Director/CEO of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor, has given assurance that the Commission, will strengthen its relationship with civil societies, because of their importance in governance.
Our Senior Roving Correspondent, reports that the DESOPADEC Boss, gave the assurance yesterday evening, when he received in audience delegates of the Delta State Civil Societies in his Office at the Commission’s Headquarters in Warri, Delta State.
Chief Ochonogor, promised that they would do their best to change the narrative and work together to make the administration of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori a success.
While urging the visiting delegates to come up with innovations that can promote the M.O.R.E. Agenda in Delta State, Chief Ochonogor said the doors of the Commission are always open to them for dialogue and since DESOPADEC does not work in isolation, it has to collaborate with them to achieve good governance in the State.
Earlier, the Founding Co-ordinator of the Delta State Civil Society Community Initiative, Deacon Okezi Odingala had said they came to congratulate the MD on his appointment, stating that the appointment was a testament that he was the right man for the job and would take DESOPADEC to the next level.
Deacon Odingala, sought the Commission's collaboration in waste management through adequate advocacy of the public on how to turn waste into energy that would create wealth.
He also said the Commission should explore other areas beyond oil such as robotic engineering, clean energy, and renewable energy as alternate sources of fuel by incorporating these areas in the DESOPADEC Skills Academy (DSA).
Also speaking, the Leader of the delegation, Senior Special Assistant on Civil Engagement and Civil Societies to the Governor of Delta State, Activist Rex Emojite Anighoro enumerated some aspects where DESOPADEC can partner with the Civil Societies to include Artificial Intelligence (AI); Capacity building of staff; America Space Hub of young people and a resource center for Civil Society in Delta.
