Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the Nigerian Police Force Divisional Headquarters, Aladja, built by the Chief Onajite Brown administration of Udu Local Government Area, as the beginning of a serious commitment to security, justice and fairness in Aladja and other parts of Udu Local Government Area.

The Governor, who made the assertion, Thursday February 22, shortly before commissioning the Nigerian Police Force Divisional Headquarters, Aladja, six bungalows of Police quarters and police van, thanked the people of Aladja for the support they gave him and the PDP, throughout the last general elections as well as during the court processes.

Governor Oborevwori, who was represented by the Delta State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Kelly Kalanama Penawou, charged the police to make good use of the facilities, saying the projects serve as symbol of unity and resilience.

The Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Chief Onajite Brown, had in his opening address, explained that the Police Divisional Headquarters project, was borne out of the sheer necessity to reduce crime and possibly eradicate it from Udu and environs.

Whilst stating that for many years, Udu Local Government Area, has had only one Divisional Police Command, which has been overburdened due to the large land mass it covers, Chief Jite Brown, noted that the influx of people, expansion and urbanization of Udu metropolis, necessitated the construction of the state-of-the-art Divisional Police Command at Aladja.

The Udu Local Government Boss, appreciated Governor Oborevwori for the ongoing works at the Udu Harbour Market and appealed to the Governor to dualize the major road linking Express Junction in Udu to ECN Junction at Ughelli in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

Barely two months ago, we commissioned for use a newly constructed Multi-Purpose Hall and Office Block at the Council Secretariat premises, Otor-Udu. In the course of implementing the aforementioned projects, we ensured standard practice, transparency and strict accountability in the planning and execution of governmental policies, since they are hallmarks of good governance”, Chief Brown, disclosed.

In a message, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM, Owhorhu I, Barr. (Dr.) E.B.O Delekpe, called for the completion of the Final Phase of the Udu Palace situated at Otor-Udu, the traditional headquarters of the kingdom, which according to him, has been roofed and plastered, but awaiting the installation of internal fittings, painting and furnishing.

The Udu Monarch, whose address was read by the President-General of Udu Kingdom, High Chief Moses .A. Uparan, canvassed for the establishment of a Polytechnic in Aladja, “on the available large expanse of land within the vicinity of the just commissioned Aladja Police Divisional Headquarters, which is part of the Educational Master Plan of Udu Kingdom.”

The President of Aladja Community Council, ACC, Comr. Shell Okakotu Godfirst, who spoke on behalf of people of Aladja Community, stated: “The operations of the Police Station in our community in the short period, has in no small measure, helped in the maintenance of peace and order.

“The Nigeria Army and pragmatic efforts of your Excellency (Governor Oborevwori) will be absolutely fulfilled if the on-going boundary demarcation exercise between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh, is brought to a peaceful completion. Peace within our community is not sufficient, rather we desire to live peacefully with our neighbours, irrespective of their ethnic inclination.

“We therefore use this opportunity to passionately appeal to your Excellency to do a perimeter fence in the college.

“We want to politely remind your Excellency that your predecessor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa approved the establishment of Udu Technical College to be sited in Aladja.

“We therefore solicit for the empowerment of the indigenes via skill acquisition programmes, soft loans and other measures in line with the M.O.R.E Agenda of the state government.”

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Surajudeen Olufemi, who was represented by ACP Anchie Joseph, thanked Chief Jite Brown for the provision of the Divisional Command building, the quarters and the police truck, saying it is a show of commitment to security.

 

The CP, assured that the facilities will be put to effective use and properly maintained by the Command.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that the Police Divisional Command building, encompasses the counter, the Divisional Crime Office (DCO) the Service Officer's Office, the DPO's Office , Toilets and Cells, the Motor Traffic Division, the Armory and Admin Office, with a quarter-guard and security post in the premises.
