Police gun down robbery suspect during operation


An unidentified armed robbery suspect, who is reportedly a member of six-man gang have been gunned down by the Police, even as he gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital, a statement by the Delta State Police Command has revealed.

The suspect met his waterloo when he and other five member of the robbery gang opened fire on operatives attached to Orerokpe Division, who were on foot patrol along Osubi/Warri Road Osubi in Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State.

According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP. Celestina Kalu, the operatives were on patrol when they heard a gunshot from Okonowa Street, opposite Lawfab Hotel Osubi. On advancing to the street, they met the hoodlums who opened fire on them.

The statement noted that it was in the course of exchanging fire that one of the armed robbers was gunned down and arrested, while the others escaped.

Items recovered from the suspect included one cut-to-size locally made gun and one live cartridge, even as efforts are on to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
