Advancing Democracy and Decency: A Call for Transparent Processes in the internal PDP Local Government Chairmanship Election 

Dear Esteemed Members of the PDP Party Exco and Members at Large,

As members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, we pride ourselves on our commitment to democratic principles and the advancement of our collective welfare.

However, recent trends in the selection of local government chairmanship candidates have raised concerns among our ranks, prompting a critical examination of our party's internal processes.

It is with a sense of duty and urgency that I address you today, advocating for a fundamental shift in how we approach the selection of candidates for local government chairmanship positions. It has become evident that decent individuals, as well as those possessing exceptional qualifications and capacity, are deterred from contesting these positions due to the prevailing undemocratic practices within our party.

One of the cornerstone principles of democracy is the notion of inclusivity and the equal participation of all members in decision-making processes. Regrettably, the current practice of a selected few individuals determining the candidates for local government chairmanship positions not only undermines this principle but also erodes the trust and confidence of our party members.

Decent individuals, with their integrity and commitment to public service, are disinclined to engage in a system where meritocracy takes a back seat to cronyism and favoritism.

Furthermore, highly qualified individuals, possessing the requisite skills and expertise to effectively lead at the local government level, are discouraged from stepping forward when the pathway to candidacy is obscured by opaque selection mechanisms.

The lack of transparency and accountability in the selection process not only disenfranchises our party members but also perpetuates a culture of elitism and exclusivity within our ranks. It is imperative that we recognize the inherent value of diverse perspectives and talents within our party and empower our members to actively participate in shaping the future of our local communities.

I propose that we embrace a more democratic approach to candidate selection, one that upholds the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and meritocracy. By instituting transparent processes that afford every eligible member the opportunity to contest for local government chairmanship positions, we can ensure that our party remains true to its democratic ideals and fosters a culture of integrity and excellence.

Let us reaffirm our commitment to the values upon which our party was founded and reject the notion that the will of a few should supersede the collective voice of the many. Together, let us champion a new era of democratic governance within our party, where decency and qualifications are celebrated, and the aspirations of our members are honored.

In conclusion, I urge each and every one of you to lend your support to this noble cause and join me in advocating for the implementation of transparent and democratic processes in the selection of local government chairmanship candidates.
