In view of the present insecurity challanges in the Country, the Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf has appealed to the State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to provide armed officers to guard the assembly complex, before, during and after sitting.
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the Speaker made the appeal during the house plenary on Wednesday.
The Speaker directed the Clerk of the house to communicate to the appropriate authority for immediate action.
"In view of recent security challenges in our Country and also our dear State, it is important that we beef up security hear at the Assembly complex before, during and after sitting.
"The officers here in Kogi Assembly are not armed, and this calls for concerns. If they can not provide the assembly with armed Police officers, during and after sitting, they should be withdrawn. " he stated.
The House in a voice vote supported the Speaker's motion.
The house has adjourned sitting to 23rd May, 2024.
