Delta: Suspension of strike by Organized Labour, keeps parents, students guessing over new date for 2024 BECE

The reported suspension of strike earlier today, Tuesday June 4, by the Organized Labour (NLC and TUC) has thrown parents and students in Delta State, into a guessing game, as to when the postponed 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE for Junior Secondary School III students, will now hold in the state.

Recall that the Delta State Ministry of Information, in a statement released weekend by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Augustine Oghoro, on behalf of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, announced indefinite postponement of the examination.

The statement, had noted that in the event the strike did not hold, the examination would commence on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

The examination, originally scheduled to run from Monday June 3 through Friday June 7, was rescheduled indefinitely by the Ministry, as a result of the strike, while students in JSS I, JSS II, SSI and SS II, were asked to observe mid-term break for the whole of this week.

Findings by This Newspaper, as at the time of this report, revealed that while the JSS III students and their parents eagerly await the new date for the rescheduled BECE, students in other classes and their parents, were also at a loss as to whether or not they would resume school tomorrow, Wednesday June 5, or wait for the eventual outcome of the renewed negotiation between Officials of the Federal/ State governments, the Organized Private Sector and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC as well as the Trade Union Congress, TUC.
