Your proposal for restructuring Nigeria into regions, didn't consider fears of minorities - ILOT replies Northern minorities

The Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, ILOT, has rejected the call by Northern minorities for the restructuring of Nigeria into three regions, saying the proposal did not consider the fears of Southern ethnic minorities.

Fresh Angle International can report that the position of the Itsekiri leaders, was contained in a statement released this afternoon, Sunday September 1 by the Secretary of Itsekiri Leaders of Thought, Sir Amorighoye Sunny Mene.

The statement, noted: " The Itsekiri Leaders of thought ( ILOT) completely reject the Northern minorities call for restructuring of Nigeria into three regions.

"The proposal did not consider the fears of Southern Ethnic Minority Nationalities, properly captured in the 1958 Sir Willinks Commission report, that ultimately led to the creation of the Mid- West Region with the provision of a special protection clause in the Mid - West Regional constitution for the protection of minorities like Itsekiri.

"As members of the Movement For National Reformation ( MNR )We call for the reinstatement of the suspended 1963 constitution, with necessary amendments to align it with current realities.

"Any restructuring that does not provide for local autonomy and or freedom to federate with non hostile neighbours will not be supported by us. The current system where our neighbours seek to exterminate or annihilate our people is not sustainable."
