Indigenous contractors to Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, under the aegis of IRDC Contractors’ Forum, have cried out over delay in the payment of some of their members, for jobs executed in the IRDC communities.
Recall that the Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, was one of the RDCs under Chevron Nigeria Limited GMoU Governance Model and was solely funded by the Oil and Gas major, CNL.
The IRDC Contractors’ Forum, in a letter addressed to the Area Manager of Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL and made available to Fresh Angle International, today, Monday October 14, claimed: “Some contractors who were able to complete their jobs, got payment, holding their retention, while others with 80% project level, were not paid. These contractors with 80% project level, mobilized to site December last year and completed their projects same month, but they have not been paid up to this moment.
The Chairman of IRDC Contractors’ Forum, Mr. Paul W. Moju and the Secretary, Mr. James Odume, in the letter dated Monday October 14, explained: “We were encouraged to borrowed money to execute the contracts and many of us have ran at a loss. If Chevron Nigeria Limited, had kept to their contractual terms, all projects would have since be completed and commissioned.
“We want Chevron Nigeria Limited, to pay retention to our colleagues in Omadino, Abiteye, Dibi and Olero fields, to enable them offset their debts, which has caused them sleepless nights. These contractors took loan from banks and cooperative, because they were not given APG, but were told to out-source money elsewhere.
“We are issuing 14days ultimatum to Chevron to pay all contractors still owed milestone and retention or risk disruption of their production activities, across the five fields they operate.
“We are also appealing to Delta State government and relevant security agencies, to prevail on Chevron Nigeria Limited to do the needful or else we will be forced to carry out our threat.”
