Delta-based Event Planner, slams ‘Verydarkblackman’ with N500m defamatory suit

A Delta State based Event Planner and former banker, Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Uruneyonjueyi Atsepoyi, has slammed self-acclaimed Online Police, Mr. Martins Vincent Otse (also known as 'Verydarkblackman) with a Five Hundred Million Naira (N500,000,000.00) defamatory suit, Fresh Angle International, can authoritatively report.

Mrs. Esinjemiyotan Atsepoyi, who is the Wife to famous Social Media Influencer and Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor, Rt. (Hon.) Sheriff Oborevwori, on New Media, Mr. Freedom Okpetoritse Atsepoyi (A.K.A. Mr. Jollof), is also praying The High Court of Justice, Delta State of Nigeria, In The Effurun Judicial Division, to direct ‘Verydarkblackman’ to publish an apology in two National Dallies and all his social media handles.

The Claimant in suit no: Ehc/203/2024, alleged that ‘Verydarkblackman’ published a defamatory content against her and same was streamed, watched and digested by members of the public; amongst whom are her customers, some of whom are resident in Effurun, a place within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Justice, Delta State of Nigeria, In the Effurun Judicial Division.

Mrs. Atsepoyi, through her Counsel, John Smart Esq. of Cross Attorneys, averred in her Writ of Summons: “Sometime on the 15^th, 16^th and in the early hours of 19^th September, 2024, the Defendant used his social media verified Instagram handle of “verydarkblackman" to continually make and publish defamatory publications in form of an online video about and against the Claimant.

“In the said publications, the Defendant stated that the Claimant committed adultery against her husband with a ‘yahoo boy’ he also stated that the Claimant slept with ‘several politicians’ to give her husband appointment as an SSA with the Delta State Government and that one of her children is not for her husband, suggesting that the husband conducts a DNA paternity test. He said vide the same medium that he has witnesses to these claims and he is ready for any action that his publication may occasion.

“While making this video, the Defendant called out the Claimant's husband with the Claimant's husband's popular social media name: *MR. JOLLOF" and used a cut to size picture of him to tell the world who he was making reference to as shown in the video and snapshots referred in the preceding paragraphs.

“The verbal assault and defamation of the Claimant by the Defendant, was intentionally orchestrated by the Defendant to tarnish the Claimants reputation, destroy the peace in her marriage and make her loose patronage in her thriving business.

“The defamatory publication lowered the Claimant in the estimation of right-thinking members of the society generally, and exposed the Claimant to pain, embarrassment, hate, contempt and ridicule. The publication has caused people to avoid the Claimant, and discredited the Claimant in her business and trade; causing great injury to her financial credit. In view of which the Claimant's social media business page (@eventsbybloomsandballoons) is being bombarded with several insults, degrading and unprintable words.

“The publication of the Defendant did cause rancor in the Claimant's home, especially with her in-laws, her husband and other family friends.

“Upon the Claimant's attention being drawn to the said defamatory publication on the Defendant's handle, the Claimant responded and requested the Defendant to retract the said defamatory words vide her solicitor's letter dated 19th September, 2024, but he refused.

“Despite the Claimant's letter, writing the Defendant to retract his defamation contained in the said online publication, the Defendant has refused and/or neglected to do so, treating the said demand with disdain, levity and nonchalance.”
