There's growing anger in Itsekiri host communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited , CNL , over alleged refusal of the company to authorise the leadership of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC to pay contractors who executed jobs for the Chevron Nigeria Limited sponsored IRDC.
Indigenous contractors to IRDC, under the auspicious of IRDC Contractors ' Forum, in a letter dated Monday October 14, 2024 and addressed to the Area Manager of Chevron Nigeria Limited, had claimed that some of its members who completed their jobs, got payment and their retention were not paid, while others with 80% project level, were not paid.
According to the aggrieved contractors, their members with 80% project level as at October 2024, mobilised to site December 2023 and completed their projects same month, but remain frustrated and heavily indebted " because they haven't been paid."
A critical stakeholder, Ogbankomi Jemine, in a statement made available to select - newsmen in Warri, weekend, blamed the Area Manager of CNL, " for the inhuman delay." He alleged : " The Area Manager, has become nonchalant towards issues that are dear to the Itsekiri host communities.
" As at today ( Sunday November 24) indigenes of Itsekiri host communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited, are in hopeless state, regarding the Christmas food we usually get as IRDC communities, due to Chevron's pretext of transitioning from GMoU to PIA, even though there's nothing concrete to show as regards existence of Host Community Development Trust, HCDT in Itsekiri host communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited."
