IYE flays NDLM, Chevron over blast of pipeline at Dibi-Olero-Abiteye trunk line, flow stations

The Itsekiri Youths Elites, IYE, has strongly disapproved the bombing of pipelines at Dibi-Olero-Abiteye trunk line and flow stations by Niger Delta Liberation Movement, NDLM, last Friday, just as they blamed Chevron Nigeria Limited, for failing to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility to the host communities.

Fresh Angle International, can report that the position of IYE, was contained in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comr. Lily-white Esigbone and Secretary, Comr. Eboma Tuoyo Micheal.

According to the group, the alleged failure of Chevron Nigeria Limited to address the needs of people of the Itsekiri host communities, “led to the recent attack on the oil facility in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.”

IYE, averred: “It is alarming that the Itsekiri host communities to Chevron Nigeria Limited, have been plagued by poverty, unemployment, lack of basic amenities, environmental degradation, health hazards and crime.

“These issues are direct result of Chevron's neglect and lack of commitment to improving the lives of the Itsekiri host communities.”

Whilst stressing that Chevron's failure to address these issues have driven some youths into criminal activities in Warri, IYE, warned that it will hold Chevron Nigeria Limited accountable for any further unrest and destruction of oil facilities in Warri.

They reiterated that the host communities, “have suffered greatly from environmental, health and security hazards due to Chevron's oil exploration activities in Warri.

“The recent vandalization of the oil pipeline in Warri North, by aggrieved youths, is a clear indication of Chevron's failure to fulfill its socio-corporate responsibilities in the area.”

IYE, cautioned: “If Chevron continues to neglect its responsibilities, the people of Warri may be forced to express their discontent in more hostile ways. Chevron must do the needful, to better the lives of the host communities.”
