In a determined effort to address environmental challenges and promote public health, the Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo, KSC, has inaugurated a monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the council area.

Our Ughelli North Bureau Chief, reports that the initiative, aimed at fostering a cleaner and healthier community, aligns with the Delta State Government's directives on environmental management.

The January exercise, held on Saturday, saw widespread participation from council officials, health and environment department representatives, security agencies, and residents.

Addressing participants during the exercise, Olorogun Egbo reiterated the importance of environmental hygiene in improving public health and preventing diseases.

He described the initiative as a strategic move to instill a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility among residents.

"This sanitation exercise is not just a routine activity; it is a collective responsibility," Olorogun Egbo stated. "A clean environment is essential for the health, well-being, and development of our people, and I am delighted by the growing support and compliance from residents and commuters in Ughelli North."

The Chairman expressed appreciation to residents and commuters for adhering to sanitation directives, emphasizing that their cooperation has been instrumental in the success of the exercise.

"I commend everyone for their commitment to this important cause," he said. "Your active participation demonstrates a shared vision for a healthier, more sustainable Ughelli North."

During the exercise, waste management teams were deployed across the local government area, clearing waste, unclogging drainage systems, and sensitizing residents on proper waste disposal practices. Security personnel ensured strict adherence to the temporary restriction on vehicular and pedestrian movement, which facilitated smooth execution of the cleanup efforts.

Residents praised the council for its proactive approach to addressing environmental issues. A community member, Mrs. Aghogho Akpojaro, said, "This initiative is long overdue, and it is commendable.

The local government is showing real commitment to keeping our environment clean, and we, as residents, must also play our part."

While acknowledging the progress made, Olorogun Egbo called for sustained efforts and greater participation in future sanitation exercises. He also assured residents that the council remains committed to providing the necessary resources to ensure the program's continuity and effectiveness.

"As we move forward, I urge every household and business to take responsibility for their surroundings. Together, we can build an Ughelli North that is not only clean but also reflects our shared aspirations for growth and development," the Chairman concluded.

The monthly sanitation drive is expected to remain a cornerstone of the council's strategy to enhance environmental health, reduce waste, and improve the quality of life for all residents.
