According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, an estimated 25.6 million?people - a quarter of the population - are experiencing crisis and emergency levels of food insecurity. This includes 6.2 million?in the three eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu.
The number of internally displaced people has reached 6.9 million, with a significant concentration in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu provinces. In these three provinces, ?5.1 million ?people have been forced to abandon their homes and live in overcrowded camps with little food or no security.
Since the start of 2024, an additional 1.9 million people have been displaced by escalating violence in eastern DRC.
WFP assisted 4.8 million people with food and cash assistance between January and November 2024. In the context of escalating conflict, fluctuating food security and severe funding shortages, WFP is revising its planning to meet increasing needs.
We require an additional?US$410 million to sustain operations until June 2025.
