Delta: Police reportedly arrest four inmates who left Correctional facility for kidnapping in Edo

Barely a week after an Assistant Inspector of Prison, identified simply as Samson was arrested for allegedly defiling a fifteen (15)year old girl(name withheld) in Warri, the Police in Ekpan Division ,Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, led by CSP Aliyu Shaba, have arrested four inmates, who purportedly left one of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, in Delta State, for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in Edo State, thereafter returned to the facility.

Fresh Angle International, understands that the latest happening almost caused misunderstanding between personnel of the Police in Ekpan Division, Uvwie Local Government Area and Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS in Delta South.

Report says Officials of the prison facility refused to release the suspects to the CSP Shaba, when he approached them. Instead of listening and cooperating with the crime fighting Police Officer, the Prison Officials vehemently resisted him and only released one of the suspects after much pressure.

It was learnt that the Prison Officials called the Police Officer to come and arrest three other suspects this Tuesday morning.

It was gathered that a young man (name withheld) was robbed January 3 in Benin City by armed men, who dispossessed him of his valuables, including mobile phones and transferred a whooping sum of four million naira (N4,000,000.00) from his account to a PalmPay account after the operation.

The victim, initially reported the crime to the Edo State Police Command, but no progress was made in identifying the assailants.

On hearing on the progress made by CSP Aliyu Shaba in exposing the killers of one Paulinus Okon at Otokutu, they decided to bring their case to Ekpan Police station.

The victim had conducted a geo-analysis of the PalmPay account, which pointed to the Udu axis, leading to further investigation.

CSP Shaba arrested the account holder, who confessed that her boyfriend owned the account.

"I met him online and we started talking and one thing led to another, he started professing love and I accepted.

"He told me he works offshore and have so many staff under him. He called me early January and told me that his phone fell into the river, but expecting to receive some money and asked me to help him open a PalmPay account, which I obliged. Later, he sent a lady to pick the ATM of the very account from me.

"On the 4th of January, I got alert of N4m and told him. Later that day, he sent account numbers to me with instruction to pay some 600k, some 1.5m some 1m etc."

CSP Shaba ran an advanced analysis on the accounts and traced it to Nigerian Correctional Services, Warri.

He immediately stormed the facility with his men and some of the arrested suspects.

On arrival, one of the suspects (girl) sighted one of the star suspects, but the Prison Officials refused to produce the young man, except one who is serving a death sentence that also participated in the robbery operation.

Meanwhile, a human right activist, Comrade Israel Joe, has called for a full scale investigation into the matter, insisting that all Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCS, who were on duty on the day the inmates left the prisons should be arrested for negligence of duty, connivance and conspiracy to the alleged crime committed by the inmates.

According to Comrade Joe, the Prison Officials on duty on the day the inmates returned to the prison facility from their operation should also be arrested for receiving them in without raising any alarm by informing the relevant authorities.

Comrade Joe commended the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ekpan Division, CSP Aliyu Shaba for doing a good job, especially in the areas of crime fighting.

"Thank you, sir, for the unbiased Investigation in exposing to the world happenings and illegally and criminal deals taking place at the prison facility. Prison officials must tell us how the inmates left the facility for kidnapping and armed robbery in Edo State."

Comrade Joe said, "CSP Shaba must be given an award for the expose' of crimes and criminality at the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, Okere, Warri," Delta State.
