US$ 52 million was released from the CFE in 2024 for 28 emergencies, WHO reveals


The World Health Organization, WHO, says nearly US$ 52 million was released from the Contingency Fund for Emergencies, CFEs in 2024 for 28 emergencies in 28 countries and territories.

According to WHO, the fund was for the global response to the cholera, dengue and mpox outbreaks.

The global health body, which made the disclosure in a post on its X handle, stated: “In 2024, with funding from the CFE, WHO responded with speed and effectiveness to a range of crises, from large-scale conflicts, global disease outbreaks and devastating disasters.

“A total of nearly US$ 52 million was released from the CFE in 2024 for 28 emergencies in 28 countries and territories, and for the global response to the cholera, dengue & mpox outbreaks.

“The CFE enabled WHO to: provide medical supplies in conflict zones and complex crises like Ethiopia, Sudan, Lebanon extend emergency health services following Cyclone Gamane in Madagascar and El Niño flooding across Africa help defeat the 3rd largest Marburg virus disease outbreak ever in Rwanda.”
