Eight months after securing court order, the authorities of Warri South Local Government Council, on Monday September 15, sealed a makeshift market occupied by traders, mostly of Hausa extraction at the NPA Bye-pass, close to the NPA Old Port Gate, Warri.

The Magistrate Court I at the Police ‘A’ Division, Warri, presided over by Chief Magistrate O.Y. Asheshebonwu, had on Wednesday February 5, 2025, ordered sealing of the makeshift market, following the nonappearance of the Sanitary Coordinator of the market, during the court sitting.

Fresh Angle International, can report that the Supervisor for Environment, Warri South Council, Hon. Femi Okorodiden and Warri South Council Head of Environment Department, Mrs. Stella Mode, coordinated sealing of the market, in-line with the court order.

The Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Okorodiden, in an interview, stated: “We have been giving them notices to maintain this place, but they didn’t do anything for the past one year and six months.

“We don’t want to see anybody here (the makeshift market). Their tricycles, are hazardous, as we are removing them from this place, they’re moving to the other side (opposite the makeshift market) after we’re done with this place, we will go to the other side to seal it up as well.

“Members of the public, have been complaining seriously about the insanitary situation of this market. They also sell hard drugs here, so we want to evacuate them from this place totally, so that they won’t constitute nuisance.”
