Contrary to report making the rounds, the head of the Olotie Family, Mr. Godwin Olotie has come out to narrate their own side of the story concerning the mysterious death of 13year old Davina Olotie, an incident which occurred on September 7.
Taye Olotie, father of the little girl, who is currently cooling off his heels at Ebrumede Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area was alleged to have killed and buried his own daughter in a suspicious manner in Ugbolokposu Community.
Mr. Olotie who is an uncle to Taye said Davina met her untimely death while holidaying with her father.
On the said date, Mr. Olotie said,"I was in a community meeting at about 3-4pm, my Children came to call me that Davina was convulsing and we tried to revive her through local herbal medication of Onion and palm Kernel oil. Meanwhile there was Cannula fixed on her hand for which drip was administered while treating malaria.
"When there was no sign of improving, the father then rushed her to a pharmacy in Otokotu where she was pronounced dead an 1hr ago before arrival at the pharmacy. According to what my son told me.
"However, it is Key to note that , the late . Davina does not live with her direct mum. She lived with her grandmother in a community called Obubu , somewhere around the Obogo axis unknown to the father Taye, because both parents have since parted ways.
'Yes !, the grandma said that Davina falls sick very often. Convulsing. In fact, in her words, and I quote (Davina day die , day wake every time. So I feel like she wan see her papa, nai make me come carry her come for this long holiday).
'So, after she handed over Davina to me and left., I couldn't reach out to the father Taye so she slept in my house until the next day when the father came to pick her to his house.
"It was on record that, the day Davina died, the father noticed the weakness in her body and quickly rushed her to a pharmacy at Okoribi for attention from there, she was referred to Agbarho General Hospital where they treated her, and fixed that Cannula to pass drip , etc.
"Subsequently, they were referred again to Warri Centre Hospital. It was on their way to the general hospital, she passed away we suspected.
"But the father being not satisfied and very confused as to what to do as a young man, seeking help now took her to another Pharmacy around Otokotu where she was confirmed dead an 1hr ago as I earlier told you."
Mr. Olotie said documentary evidence of treatment receipts were tendered at the police station in Ebrumede for investigation to prove that her death was not intentional, or meant for something else."
According to him,"The Olotie family is very pained by this death and we hope the truth will prevail.
"When they brought the copse to the compound, I sent for the direct mother of Davina and any member of her family to break the sad news and see how best to manage the situation.
By this time my compound was already filled with sympathisers and then Taye was taken away by friends for consolation."
Mr. Olotie explained that,"Given the fact that both families, that is Davina's father and mother are no longer in marriage, I was very skeptical to give a directive for her buried because it is a young lady, under aged with a painful memory for us.
"The corpse was delayed for 4 hrs , before she was buried since it was becoming dark.'
Mr. Olotie said,"If we had known of this impending wahala(trouble)of falsifying the truth in social media,"I could have given directive to deposit the corpse in the mug awaiting the time Davina's mum will come around."
He further said,"She was eventually buried in the family Compound and the mum was taken to the burial spot when she came later that evening."
He pointed out that,"when Davina's mum reported to the police, I was invited as head of the family. I went and started my own side of the story, and was asked to bring Taye to the station. I was the one that took Taye personally to the Station. Not that, Taye was arrested as being reported on social media.
"So, Taye and his present wife, have been in Police custody for some time now, answering questions....
"Both families are aggrieved, very aggrieved as we pray for understanding and the fortitude for both families to bear this irreparable loss.
May Davina Olotie soul rest in peace."
