IEPI Honoured At Inaugural Delta State Environmental Sustainability Awards

On a day globally observed as world environmental health day, the Itsekiri Environmental Protection Initiative (IEPI) has expressed profound appreciation to the Delta State Ministry of Environment for recognising its contributions to environmental advocacy and community action.

At the maiden edition of the Delta State Environmental Sustainability Award (DSESA), held Friday at Sweet Spirit Hotel, Asaba, IEPI was named Environmental Sustainability Champion (Civil Society category). The award was presented under the leadership of the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro.

In a statement jointly signed by Golly Michael Neye, National Public Relations Officer, and Ojumude Tosan Bishop, National Coordinator, IEPI commended the Ministry for initiating the award and acknowledged Kegala Environmental Consultancy Limited for its partnership in making the event a success. “This recognition is not a finish line but a gentle pat on the back, affirming that the world sees the impact of our work and inspiring us to do even more,” the statement on the IEPI official social media handle read.

The award scheme, designed to honour environmental champions and organisations advancing a safer environment and green economy in Delta State, also celebrated other distinguished recipients. They include His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Ebowowieri of Delta State; Sir Henry Erikowa of the Coastal and Marine Areas Development Initiative; Dr. Newton Jibunoh of Desert Warriors; Warri South Local Government Council, recognised as the Cleanest Council in Delta State, and Nanna College, among others.

IEPI dedicated its award to all members of the organisation, praising their collective commitment to environmental protection across the state and urging continued dedication to safeguarding the environment, reaffirming that “the environment remains our priority.”
