Indications are rife that for the second year running, local government councils in Delta State will not celebrate the annual independence day parade and visit to orphanages as a result of paucity of fund.
Fresh Angle can report that since the expiration of the tenure of local government chairmen and councilors May 2011, activities in all the 25 local government councils in Delta State have been grounded to a halt.
Investigations reveal that apart from Warri South local government council which pays monthly staff salary as at when due, majority of the remaining 24 councils are either owing a month salary arrears or manages to pay between 15th to 20th of the following month.
Reliable information from most of the council headquarters reveal that but for the additional money Governor Uduaghan gave to the council Heads of Personnel Management earlier this month in the name of excess crude, they wouldn’t have been able to pay August salaries, let alone take care of other basic responsibilities required to run the councils.
Unconfirmed report says Governor Uduaghan is tactically streamlining the funding pending when new democratic structure are constituted in the councils , as a result of alleged financial recklessness of most of the Heads of Personnel Management.
Fresh Angle reliably gathered that following these developments, none of the 25 local government councils in the state are making any arrangement to celebrate this year’s edition of Nigeria’s independence.
