Ward/Unit Delineation: Itsekiri group flays Senators Onowakpo, Dafinone

The Itsekiri Comrades International, ICI, has flayed the Senator representing Delta South, Joel Onowakpo and the Senator representing Delta Central, Senator Ede Dafinone, for speaking against the petition submitted by Itsekiri nation to the National Assembly, as regards the controversial ward/unit delineation report released by INEC.

Our Principal Correspondent, reports that the group, in a statement released Thursday November 13, also demanded fairness and transparency from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

President of Itsekiri Comrades International, ICI, Comrade Oritseneye Frederick, in the statement, described the actions of Senators Onowakpo and Dafinone as disappointing.

The statement, reads: “Our petition—raises serious concerns that certain communities from Ondo, Edo, Udu, Burutu and Bomadi have been wrongfully included in the Warri Federal Constituency. If these allegations are confirmed, it would represent a deliberate attempt to distort the constituency’s demographic and political balance, undermining both fairness and the integrity of our democratic process.

"It is deeply disappointing that Senators Onowakpo and Dafinone, instead of supporting transparency and justice, have chosen to oppose a legitimate call for investigation. We urge them to reconsider their positions and to stand on the side of fairness, accountability, and truth—the very principles they swore to uphold as representatives of the people.

"The Itsekiri nation has always stood for peaceful coexistence and democratic fairness, but we will not remain passive while our political rights are being eroded.

"We commend the Deputy Senate President and the *Nigerian Senate* for their swift action in referring this matter to a five-member committee for thorough investigation. This bold and timely step restores public confidence in the Senate’s commitment to justice and national integrity.

"We call on INEC to fully cooperate with the investigative committee and to ensure that every aspect of the delineation process is reviewed with complete transparency. The outcome of this investigation will not only affect the Warri Federal Constituency but will also set a national precedent for fairness and accountability in Nigeria’s electoral process.

"The Itsekiri Comrades International (ICI) remains resolute in defending the political rights of our people and will continue to engage constructively with all relevant stakeholders until justice is served.”
