Delta Government Conducts Final Stage of Primary Five Mathematics Competition

The Delta State Government (DTSG) has successfully concluded the final stage of the 2025 Primary Five Mathematics Competition, held on Saturday at the Government Model School. 

The event drew participation from top-performing pupils across the state, showcasing their numerical skills and problem-solving abilities in a keenly contested academic exercise.

Speaking at the event held at Goverment Model Secondary School,Asaba on December 6,2025, the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, commended teachers, parents, education officers, and partner organizations for their continuous commitment to building a solid academic foundation for children in Delta State.

 He noted that the impressive performance of the pupils was a testament to the hard work invested by all stakeholders.

Represented by the Director of Science Education,Mrs Hope Igumbor, Dr Ashibogwu emphasized that mathematics remains a cornerstone of modern learning, describing it as a subject that enhances logical thinking, creativity, and innovation among young learners. 

He stressed that strengthening mathematics education at the primary level is essential for preparing pupils for future careers in science, technology, engineering, finance, and other critical fields.

“Mathematics is not just a subject; it is a life skill,” he said. “By prioritizing it in our curriculum and competitions such as this, we are equipping our children with the tools they need to thrive in an increasingly complex world.”

The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to improving the quality of basic education through continuous teacher training, provision of learning materials, and initiatives designed to motivate pupils to pursue excellence.

Ashibogwu informed newsmen there would be presentation of awards certificates and Cash Prizes to the best 3 outstanding participants.
